PendyBall by Ledragomma Original Pezzi®

An innovative tool has been patented, PendyBall by Ledragomma original “pezzi”®, which includes within a classic Gymnastik Ball a pendulum (2 or 4 kg) fixed to the ball by a pin. The PendyBall by Ledragomma original “pezzi”® brings important innovations in the rehabilitation of trunk muscles, mainly for theexercise of muscular coordination.

Training with PendyBall by Ledragomma original “pezzi”®, which involves controlled movements of rotation of the pelvis, is an innovative working method for neuro-muscular training of the muscles of the trunk: the muscles themselves in fact develop the centrifugal fare inside the ball, with coordinated movements, during the exercise. Moreover, proactively blocking the rotation of the pendulum, the involvement of the same muscles is enhanced in isometric and eccentric modality, the latter particularly important for prevention.

Researchers at the University of Udine have studied the effects of PendyBall by Ledragomma original “pezzi”® on the characteristics of the activation of the three major trunk muscles: the rectus abdominis, the external oblique abdominal and erector spine.

Electromyographic analysis showed that the external oblique muscle of the abdomen, which synergistically contracts with one of the most important stabilizing muscles of the trunk, the transversus abdominis is active during most of the execution of these exercises.

This is extremely important, because it allows elderly or vulnerable people or people in recovery after injury to modulate the intensity of activation of these muscles, for example by choosing the weight of the pendulum and the intensity of the rotation, knowing however that they will mainly train these important muscles.

More specifically, it was seen that the management of the rotary motion of the pelvis consists of two main components: the tonic action of the external oblique and transverse abdominal muscles, and intermittent activation of the erector or the spine, which for most cases, therefore, defines the rhythm to the movement. Evidence that the coordinated management of the rotation of the pelvis of is primarily directed by the erector of the spine, highlights another very important value of such exercises as part of the neuro-muscular re-education as a result of back pain.

The rotation of the pelvis, which is primarily in the horizontal plane, also has a component of lateral tilt of the spine, defining a three-dimensional movement. This gesture is both complex and useful to do, because it involves a large number of muscles in a synergistic way and because it implies a beneficial movement of the lumbar spine. The rotation of the pelvis represents one of the most complete movements in this context, because, if done properly, it determines small movements of the lumbar spine, safely working on the areas where very often the pain begins, resulting in a greater contribution of blood, oxygen and other substances that help relieve the vicious circle that causes the pain.

PendyBall by Ledragomma original “pezzi”®, is the ideal tool for performing rotation movements of the pelvis in a coordinated and controlled way, because the motion of the pendulum in it gives immediate feedback on the quality of the movement. In fact, from the first moments sitting on the ball and beginning to rotate the pelvis, the focus falls mainly on the quality of the movement of the pendulum, “Is it hitting the walls of the ball?”; “Is it moving with fluidity or in a disorderly manner? “. These immediate checks permit the user to remodel the coordination of the motion, improving it more and more, while maintaining high levels of attention and motivation during exercises. Furthermore, compared to normal Gymnastik Balls, an even more important component of proprioception is stimulated, that is, the ability of the body to perceive itself in relation to space, and between different parts of the body.

It is available with a 2- or 4-kg pendulum, in two bright colours (transparent fuchsia or blue) and in six different sizes: Ø 21.5”, 23.5”, 25.5”, 27.5”, 29.5” and 31.5”.
